While living abroad I was unable to do a conventional house hunt in Canada.

In October ’23, I moved to the type of property that I dreamed of my having my entire adult life.

This summer my husband and I helped my parents with the hardest move of their lives.
Downsizing. It wasn’t just selling their home and buying a smaller one. It was watching the culmination of their hopes and dreams throughout their lives, what they had worked hard for, saved for, shared with children and grandchildren and great grandchildren, dissolve before their eyes. It was the having to choose one piece of memorabilia from boxes of memories. It was choosing which of the couches or recliners would have to go. That same seat that had welcomed a family member who came to visit with their new baby while they beamed at the new addition to the family. The rooms that echoed many family dinners and laughter and also grief. It was a process. Shanna Albert helped ease us all through that hard process. She understood the pain of selling that home but also instilled excitement into purchasing a new home for them. She held out hands every step of the way and went over and above to make sure we were looked after.
